Grants Program
Since 1983, the Institute has sponsored an annual grant program that offers a variety of awards to scholars, colleges and universities in the United States. The principal purpose of the grant program is to support and encourage the development of research, scholarship, and learning in the field of Turkish Studies in the US. All grant applications submitted to the Institute are evaluated by committees comprised of the academic members of the Board of Governors and Associate Members of the ITS. These standing committees present their recommendations to the Board of Governors for approval.
The Institute will offer grants and fellowships in the field of Ottoman and Modern Turkish Studies to graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, universities, and other educational institutions through its Grant Program for the 2008-2009 academic year. The annual budget for the Grants Program has been significantly expanded and ITS encourages qualified applicants to apply for its grants. The deadline for the receipt of application forms and required materials for the 2008-2009 Grants Program is March 7, 2008. Late applications will be returned.
NOTE: All applications for research in Turkey must comply with Turkish laws, which require applicants to obtain formal permission to carry out research from the Turkish institutions with which they will be affiliated.

The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) has announced its grant and internship program for the 2008-2009 academic year. Special grant categories this year include study abroad opportunities for Macedonian-Americans and African-Americans as well as a congressional internship program for Turkish-Americans. HALiDE EDiP ADIVAR SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION.
The deadline is extended an additional two weeks and is now Monday,
3 March 2008.
This scholarship is awarded annually by TSA from a separate fund. The aim
of the Adivar Scholarship is to introduce Turkey to students who have not
had extensive prior experience in Turkey or Turkish studies. This $1,000
scholarship is awarded to a qualified undergraduate in any discipline
in support of travel to Turkey for the purpose of study or research. The
successful applicant may use the scholarship to support participation in
a Turkish language program, a work internship, or for study or research
in Turkish culture and society. A scholarship applicant must be currently
enrolled in a degree program at an institution of higher education and
must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
The winner must make use of the award within a twelve month period,
beginning the summer after the award is granted. Thus, a scholarship
awarded in March 2008 is to be used in the summer of 2008 or the
2008-2009 academic year. Applicants need to submit the following:
* CV: four copies
* Academic Transcript: Official and 3 copies
* Letter of Recommendations: Two letters of recommendation addressed
to the Adivar Selection Committee and sent to: Dr. Paul Kaldjian,
